  End of Year round up

U12S

Last season we had three schoolboy teams, u12, u14 and u16,. Competing in the limerick co. schoolboy league. Managers for u 12 were Andrew Gubbins,  John Connolly, u14 Manager was John Connolly, Liam O Connor and Gerry Rea managed the  u 16 team. A very young u 12 team started there season with a big win and hopes were high, but we were brought down to earth with a bang in our next few games against more experienced teams. This league was played on a home and away basis and by the time we had our first round played, we had gained some valuable experience. We finished off our league campaign with some good results and playing some excellent football, with only four of this team overage for next season, we are already looking forward to the start of the next season.

Player of the year was Eddie Slattery; top goal scorer was Danny Frewen

Squad;  John O Brien, Eddie Slattery, Pat Fox, Billy K iely,  Shane Kelly, Eoin Martin, Danny Frewen, Peter Lane, Pat Mc Grath, Mikey Fitzgerald, .Stephen Jennings, John O Neill, Bobby Fox, David Gubbins, Alan Gubbins, Tom O Dwyer, Robert Kelly.

U14S

Our u14s also started there campaign with a good win, but alas this was to be there only win in a very poor campaign, this team are better than there results show and while the team performance was not great, there was some great individual performances, and a number of these players helped out the u 16 team.

Player of the year was Donal Kelly, while top goal scorer was Mike O Donnell,  Mike also made the panel of twenty, in the team of the year at u 14 level.  Well done to all the team on there effort, great turnout for training every week.  Better luck next season.

U16S

The u16 team under the new management of Gerry Rea and Liam O Connor were thrown in at the deep end, when the league in their wisdom put this inexperienced team into the premier league. While this was a privilege, as no team from Ballylanders had ever played in the premier, it was too much of a jump from second division soccer. While the easy option would have been to pull the team out of the league, the managers and players persevered. This option paid dividends as the year progressed, from the experience gained by playing in the premier, Bally qualified for the final of the u16 cup.

They beat premier side Charleville in the semi final, and while they lost out in the final to a very good Croom Utd, they can hold there heads up high as they played with spirit and class and gave it there best on the day.

Player of year was Willie Coffee, Top goal scorer was Rickey Slattery.

Hopefully the new management will stay for another season, and will build on the experience gained. Well done to all concerned in running Ballylanders Schoolboys Soccer. Here is looking forward to another sporting year, why not come along to our AGM (date later) and most of all come along to support our teams, after all they are your children
